Tour Plan
After breakfast at 8:30 AM, we drive from Gondar to Debark, the gateway to the Simien Mountains National Park. After completing park registration, we continue the drive to Sankaber, the first campsite.
Before reaching Sankaber, we take a short hike around the hills, where you will see large troops of endemic Gelada Baboons grazing on the grasslands. The landscape offers stunning views of deep valleys and dramatic escarpments.
Overnight Camping at Sankaber (3,250m).
After an early breakfast, we start our trek towards Chenek, the next campsite. This 5-6 hour trek is filled with spectacular scenery as we:
- Ascend rolling hillsand enjoy panoramic mountain views
- Descend into deep valleys, where unique plant life thrives
- Hike along the edges of towering cliffs, offering breathtaking vistas
- Witness the Jinbar Waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Simien Mountains
As we reach Chenek (3,600m), you may spot Walia Ibex, an endangered mountain-dwelling species found only in Ethiopia.
Overnight Camping at Chenek (3,600m).
After breakfast, we take a final trek away from Chenek. If you’re very lucky, you may spot the rare Ethiopian Wolf, Africa’s most endangered carnivore.
Following the hike, we drive back to Gondar, marking the end of our incredible trekking experience.
